Wintergreen leaves are gathered throughout the year especially during summer. The leaves are dried under shade before being processed. During the American Revolution, wintergreen was used as a substitute for tea leaves. In 1800, the Americans extracted the oil and used in treating headaches, colds, and muscle pains.

Gaultheria pocumbens – this species is native to North America
Gaultheria Fragrantissima – this species is native to Asia and India
Uses.
It has been extensively used to relieve pain, fight against infections, treat arthritis and rheumatism, treats spasms.
Its therapeutic uses are analgesic, ant rheumatic, antispasmodic carminative, diuretic, stimulant, aromatic, and astringent properties.
It is used to staunch bloody wounds, applied to dog bites, snakebites, and insect bites.
Though wintergreen or Gandhapura oil may be a component in products used as nose inhalation and in fever.
When you use it on your skin, it causes good sensations .
This oil also stimulates the flood of blood in any area of your body where it is applied.
